Frequently Asked Questions
Is TytoHome covered by insurance?
As a Service Benefit Plan member, you receive your Tyto device free of charge! You can use your device to conduct online doctor visits at no cost to you or your family. This program is a pilot program that’s separate from the national telehealth benefit offered to Blue Cross and Blue Shield Service Benefit Plan members through Teladoc Health®. To learn more about the national telehealth benefit, visit fepblue.org/telehealth.
Can my family members also use the device and conduct doctor visits?
Yes, you and your family members can use the same device.
When should I use TytoHome?
You can use TytoHome as your first stop to access healthcare from home, for conditions or symptoms such as ear infections, sinus pain, sore throat, congestion, rashes and bug bites, allergies, stomach ache, fever, cold, and flu, coughs and upper respiratory issues, and constipation.
*If it’s a true medical emergency, like severe difficulty breathing, uncontrollable bleeding, or head injury, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
If I’m not sick, can I do a well-visit?
Yes, you can conduct a visit anytime you need, whether you’re sick or have questions or concerns for the doctor.
How do I include my spouse and children in TytoHome virtual care services?
When you first log in to TytoCare and start a visit, you will be asked to choose your patient. You, as the account creator, will have a patient profile automatically created – you’ll see it as the only one on the list. You can now add other patients, like children, from that same screen. If the user is over 18, legal/privacy regulations require that they download the app to their phone or tablet and create their own account. They can, however, share the same Tyto device.
Can I choose the doctor I see?
No, the exam will be conducted by the first available, fully board-certified, provider.
Are the virtual clinic visit results going to be updated with my PCP (Primary Care Physician)?
Not automatically, but you can share your exam data with your provider via the “Exam and Share” feature that essentially emails the files to them for review.
How do I have my child see a pediatrician?
You don’t need to do anything – based on their age, kids will be automatically routed to a pediatrician.
Should my own doctor not be available, who is the healthcare provider that I would be speaking to?
All providers that use TytoHome are licensed medical professionals. You can send exam data to your doctor or to one from our network of providers during off-hours.
What exams can be performed using TytoHome?
A TytoHome visit provides your doctor with high-quality digital sounds of the heart and lungs, high-quality digital images and video of the ears, throat, and skin and measures heart rate and body temperature. Using this examination data, your doctor can provide you with a diagnosis, treatment plan, and prescription if needed.
Are specialists available (e.g. nephrologists, dermatologists, etc.)?
At this stage, the service for Service Benefit Plan members is for General Practice or Urgent Care consultation and exams. Again, you can record exam data and send it to, say, your cardiologist.
Is TytoHome FDA cleared?
The Tyto Stethoscope is FDA cleared and all other devices comply with FDA requirements.
Who sees the data from my exams, and is it HIPAA-compliant?
Exam data is sent via an encrypted, secure network and is stored on our HIPAA-compliant cloud. Only you and your healthcare provider can determine who can access your medical records.
