Dr. Brad Anderson and Jared Droze showcased OSU’s virtual care program, expanding healthcare access in rural Oklahoma. Their school-based telehealth clinics help keep kids in class and parents at work while addressing provider shortages. With virtual quick-care and behavioral health support, OSU is bridging care gaps and improving health outcomes for underserved communities.
Sheila Freed – Clinical Operations Director of School Health & Senior Care
Sheila Freed highlighted the power of data in school-based telehealth, showing how meaningful metrics can drive impact. Her team at Avel eCare has conducted over 100,000 virtual visits, providing school nurse services to rural and underserved schools. By tailoring data for different stakeholders, they demonstrate how telehealth improves student health, keeps kids in school, and supports educators.
Sheila Freed shares how Avel eCare have improved access to care in schools
Avel eCare was looking for an affordable telehealth solution that was easy to use, easy to explain and didn’t require a lot of downtime. Schools using TytoCare can now conduct remote physical exams that go beyond video to prevent absenteeism
Erinn Kasubinski – Mind Matters: Integrating Behavioral Health into Virtual School Solutions
Erinn Kasubinski shared how MUSC’s school-based telehealth program improves student health and access to care across South Carolina. Now in over 130 schools, with plans to expand, the program provides acute, chronic, and behavioral health services. By reducing ER visits and keeping students in class, MUSC’s telehealth model supports whole-child care while easing burdens on families and schools.
Heather Crouch – Care in Rural Schools – How virtual impacts access to care
Heather Crouch shared how East Tennessee Children’s Hospital is expanding school-based telehealth to improve pediatric care access in rural communities. With dedicated nurse practitioners, enhanced registration, and provider availability, the program has grown to 51 schools and significantly increased visits. By reducing ER use, keeping kids in class, and addressing specialty care needs, the program continues to evolve and expand.
Dana Ijames – Having a Successful School-Based Program Through Connection and Relationships
Dana Ijames shared how Kintegra Health is expanding school-based telehealth across North Carolina, ensuring all students receive care regardless of their ability to pay. Starting with six schools, the program now serves 21 and is set to reach 56. By building strong relationships with schools, integrating medical assistants, and optimizing resources, they’re improving access, reducing absenteeism, and keeping students healthy in the classroom.
Chrissy Kuahine – Enhancing School Health Through DOE Partnerships and Virtual Care Technologies
Chrissy Kuahine shared how Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center partnered with Hawaii’s DOE to expand school-based healthcare, now serving six schools. Their telehealth program, using Tytocare, improves access to medical and behavioral care while addressing chronic absenteeism. By integrating cultural and community-based initiatives, like food pantries and farm-based health services, they’re creating holistic solutions for student wellness.
