Medical University of South Carolina Partners with TytoCare to Place Pro Smart Clinic Devices in 150 Schools

Collaboration turns school nurse offices into virtual care clinics, helping students get healthcare on-site and avoid unnecessary doctor visits

Charleston, SC and New York, NY August 15, 2024 – The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), South Carolina’s only comprehensive academic health system, announced it is expanding its efforts to provide virtual care technology to school health clinics. In partnership with virtual care company TytoCare, MUSC is deploying Pro Smart Clinic devices in 150 schools across the Charleston region. The Pro Smart Clinic solution replaces existing telehealth carts, allowing the schools to add more virtual care stations, with more exam capabilities.

TytoCare’s Pro Smart Clinic lets healthcare providers remotely perform most of the exams they would during an in-person clinic visit, like heart exams, lung exams—which include AI-driven wheeze detection—throat and ear exams, and body temperature measurement. 

When present in schools, the Pro Smart Clinic empowers clinicians on-site to resolve more health concerns without necessitating avoidable in-office doctor visits, which can keep students out of the classroom and be time and resource intensive for parents.

MUSC is one of more than 70 health systems across the United States, including Cone Health in North Carolina and A Plus Family HealthCare in Kentucky, that have partnered with TytoCare to place Pro Smart Clinic devices in over 2,500 schools.

When available in schools, TytoCare’s Pro Smart Clinic diverts urgent care and emergency department visits by enabling on-site and remote clinical staff to appropriately and accurately assess and treat more health conditions. Resolving health issues within schools prevents absenteeism among students and saves time for parents by avoiding both wait and travel times for in-office appointments.
